A dive boat pulled into McCargoe Cove over night. Loons and what I think were turtles were calling all night long. I heard what I thought might be a Moose swimming in the cove in the early morning & rushed outside. Couldn't see where it was. Made water & ate breakfast. Talked with a couple guys with a kevlar canoe that are working their way up the route I walked, except by portaging & paddling the lakes. I didn't mention before, but this would be in the order I walked...Lake Richie, Lake LaSage, East Chickenbone, West Chickenbone, McCargoe Cove. They'll get to Moskey then paddle all the way to Rock before leaving on the Ranger III the day we do. One of the guys has been coming since the 70's. My knee feels a bit better but I can't fully extend it without pain. Hung out until V-II arrived....longer than expected. I have no watch so I really don't know what time it is, nor do I really know the time the boat arrives. Found out later that if they don't have a scheduled drop or pick-up, they bypass the cove! Could have been a long wait. Beautiful day, sunny & breezy. Puffy coulds, crickets knick-knacking, and squirrels chittering. A light rain came and went, then it turned quite hot & stifling. Finally the boat arrived. Very nice ride around the north of the Island. Met a young man on board coming from MN to meet up with his uncle on Belle Isle. They'll take the uncles fishing boat back tomorrow. A good wind picked up as we rounded the norther tip of IR, causing some good sized waves...perhaps 2-3 feet. Nothing really, but pretty exciting for me. Put in at Rock Harbor, found a good shelter and took a nap. Bought some advil (packages of 2 for a dollar), ate dinner of Ramen & potatoes then went to the campfire talk "20 below and lots of snow: what's a critter to do?". Sang songs & the whole bit. What a hoot. Beautiful evening with T-storm forecast for the morrow. Headed to bed.
