Isle Royale: Tuesday 7/13

General:

Final Dinner Isle Royale 2010 

Up early for breakfast, then Sean and Dan off in the kayaks to paddle to Rock Harbor, while Steve and Don hike out the 6 miles. Met up again at the housekeeping cabin about 1.30. Showers, naps, laundry etc, until dinner. Ate a big meal at the restaurant. Went to a ranger talk at Tobin Harbor pier at 8pm. It was Lake Superior Jeopardy...which was a fun way to learn a lot of facts. Back to the room, played a bit of Black Jack with a bunch of conversation around this topic...then to bed.

Dan:

Didn't sleep real well ... perhaps just ready to go home. Up at 5:30 or so & walked to the end of the dock. Beautiful final morning in camp. Sun just up, quiet as can be. Water as glass & the pines just beginning to take shape. How great is our God! Back to camp, ate breakfast & completed packing quickly. Sean and I got into the kayaks for a relatively quick paddle up the harbor...6 miles. Water calm & the sun in our eyes...very quiet. Experimented with various paddling styles since my left shoulder was tiring quickly. Finally settled on two styles to alternate & this worked well. Talked a bit about Sean's dreams & hopes. Stopped just past 3 mile camp for a pee...Sean managed to get out and back into his kayak without getting his feet we at all!

Pulled into Rock Harbor at 10:30. Checked into cabin & took showers. Bought gifts & went to lunch at the Diner. On the way back to the cabin we were marking the path with cairns, when who do we find already unpacking at our cabin? Yup, those guys made record time back from Daisy.
